Our Story

The intriguing beauty of the changing landscape and of plant forms have inspired most of these designs. Memories of joyous Christmas celebrations have informed others. Places seen and remembered are what I show.

I grew up in the midwest and spent a lot of time by Lakes Michigan and Superior, entranced by the landscape of those shores and the farms and forests nearby. I spent much of my high school life in the art room, where several wonderful, generous teachers encouraged me to keep drawing. In art school, I majored in sculpture with a minor in illustration, and worked as an editorial illustrator for several years after graduation.

While raising two children I worked in publishing, managing illustrations and maps for the textbook market. I had the pleasure of working with bright, creative people, and was able to keep drawing and sculpting. I created two picture books, Nellie’s Garden and Nellie’s Grannies, which were published by Tambourine Books, a division of William Morrow & Co.

I live in an interesting city where a surprising range of plants and animals thrive in tucked-away corners and vacant areas. (There is also a fair amount of trash, some of which I can use in my sculptures.) Making art from these “idea walks” is one of my great pleasures, and I hope you will find something here to enjoy.
